IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR MGB MASSHEALTH ACO MEMBERS REGARDING URGENT CARE CENTERS

It has recently come to our network’s attention that the Southcoast Hospital Urgent Care centers and outpatient specialists affiliated with Southcoast Hospital system are now considered “out-of-network” for patients who have the MassGeneral Brigham (MGB) Masshealth ACO insurance product.   What this means is that those locations are no longer likely to accept the insurance and therefore may refuse to see you/your child.    IMPORTANT: Your child CAN STILL BE SEEN through any emergency department when needed, including those of the South Coast hospital system (St. Luke’s in New Bedford, Charlton Hospital in Fall River and Tobey Hospital in Wareham).

We recognized that this network policy change may pose a significant inconvenience to you and your family when your child is sick.   We recommend the following for you as options:

  • Contact us first if you think your child may need to be seen for a mild illness or injury.   We are available in the office to help you and are available on call 24/7 after office hours.
  • Many mild illnesses or injuries can be safely and appropriately managed at home to see if they improve over for a few days without needing to be seen by a doctor immediately.  Our website (www.middleboropediatrics.com) has links to common conditions, how to manage them, and when to call to be seen.  Please use those resources.
  • If we do not have any remaining available same day appointments and you feel that the condition/injury can not wait to a different day for us to see your child, then the following urgent care centers in our region listed below are still accepting Masshealth MGB ACO Masshealth insurance
  • REMEMBER: If your child’s illness/injury is mild, please try and use resources other than a hospital emergency room.  Currently, the demands on hospitals ERs are very high and people with severe/serious conditions will be given priority to being seen (which may result in a very long wait for a child with a more mild condition).
